Today your passage is a video to watch. Video authors also have a purpose. Is it trying to inform you, persuade you, or entertain you. How do you know?

10/29 Friday's Task

Today is the last day this week to read a passage and tell what author's purpose it is. Have fun and remember to ask yourself, "What did the author want me to do?"

10/28 Thursday's Task

Yesterday was a little tough. A number of people did not select the correct answer. Always read your passage softly outloud so that you can hear how the author meant it. Be careful today and remember:

Entertain must be fiction, have story characters, a setting, and a plot with a problem and solution.

Inform must be only facts about 1 topic.

Persuade is when the author is trying to sell you something or trying to talk you into agreeing to something.

10/27 Wednesday's Task

You know the routine now! Just read Wednesday's passage, discuss whether it is persuade, inform, or entertain and tell me why. Don't forget your code name when you choose the Name/Url selection.

Go to the Tuesday link across the page. Read the passage and discuss with your partner. Decide which author's purpose it is.

Go back to the main page and select the comment hyperlink. Write which author's purpose the passage is and explain why.

Make sure to choose Name/URL and type in your code names. Also remember to type in the secret word.

We will be participating in an exciting new lesson this week on learning about the past Presidents of the United States. Each pair in our room will select a President from the list below. Make sure that you do not choose one that any other pair has selected. Then use the links on the right to do research on your President.

You may choose from:

John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John Tyler, Franklin Pierce, Ulysses S. Grant, Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, or William J. Clinton

Go to the new Thanksgiving websites. Find out two things about the Wampanoag (Native American) people and the Pilgrims. Compare them in two ways on your comment. An example would be to compare the foods both groups ate, or the games they played.

The Revolutionary War

We will be determining the cause of the Revolutionary War against Great Britain in the late 1700s. You will be assigned a topic and a group to work with. Your group will answer the following questions about your topic:

1. What happened?
2. Who were the main people involved?
3. What caused it to happen?
4. Where did it take place?
5. When did it take place? (Time in History)
6. How did it affect the colonists?
7. How did it affect England?

Once you have located and recorded the answers to your questions, you team will create a project to present to the class. Your team will also create a study guide or graphic organizer for students to use and fill in as you present your topic.
